Jolyon's thread is bonkers. The UK's corruption at the national government level seems more like something a shady American mayor would do. Which is not to say that the US isn't just as corrupt, but rather that we make more of an effort to hide it?

but then again, there isn't really a need to hide it here: the government has zero oversight, the media is uniformly right wing and owned by people driving the corruption, and most British people can't be fucked to care unless it's a story implying racism or transphobia is good
