Let’s talk about self sabotage. It’s when you talk yourself out of something because you’re anxious or you feel you aren’t good enough. Lockdown is going to see these unwanted thoughts more and more, especially in freelancers as work starts to slowly reappear.
You might see people getting work first, you might panic that no work is coming your way and think what’s the point? You might get offered work and feel you aren’t good enough or there are better people for the job. This is self sabotage.
It is common and not many people talk about it. It’s when we prevent ourselves from reaching our goals because of fears such as a fear of failure or a fear you aren’t good enough. These feelings lower our self-confidence and self-worth. Even more so when we see others succeed.
My advice: re-watch your work or re-read your CV and remember that YOU did that and you clearly are good enough. I’m not afraid to say these are feelings I’ve battled with consistently for years but the way I deal with it is by remembering scenarios where my presence was crucial.
And if you don’t have work to re-watch or a CV but are still afraid of failure or that you feel you aren’t good enough, remember scenarios where you were successful & what you achieved and write these down. Keep them somewhere safe and read it when you feel a dip in confidence.
