Why is Dan Andrews being blamed for the Victorian covid situation, but Gladys Berejiklian isnât being blamed for the NSW one? I know the answer, just thought Iâd ask the rabid media pack so they can think on it a while. Accountability should not be mistaken for partisan hit jobs.
And by the way, if you work for the ABC or the Guardian or Fairfax and your work looks like itâs come out of the Murdoch media, you have a major issue. We all know Murdoch has an agenda. If you donât have an agenda, why are you perpetuating narratives that do?
Just thought Iâd add this to the thread. This is the number of covid cases each state got from the Ruby Princess, which I do believe docked in NSW under the Federal governmentâs âborder protectionâ regime. Where was the rabid hour long news conferences about this?
Also, where is the scrutiny - the accountability - of the political groups and players, including the media, who have opposed Andrewsâ management of the pandemic from day one? They called him Dictator Dan because he didnât want to open everything up too quickly. Well well well.
Not sure if youâve noticed, but SA has a new little cluster that got out of a hotel when a cleaner caught covid from an infected guest. Media could lay into Lib govt in SA asking why returning Victorians werenât hosted in hotel quarantine to stop this happening - ha! Wonât happen
It concerns me that a lot of Victorian based journos are driving this anti-Andrews sentiment, finger pointing, obsessing over how they can pin it all on Andrews, because they are emotionally impacted by having to lockdown again. Thatâs not how journalism is meant to work.
It also concerns me that the focus is only on Andrews and not on the Federal government. How did leaving casuals out of Job Seeker impact on infected people going to work in Victoria? How did Feds fail to manage private aged care outbreaks? Whereâs the rabid questioning on this?
Also, whereâs the rabid questioning about first wave of covid? If I do recall, Morrison was quick to close down flights from China, but too slow to close down flights from US. Australiaâs outbreak was mostly American travellers. Whereâs the scrutiny of every decision made then?
What about the Morrison government flatly refusing to close schools and fighting against Andrewsâ desire to shut schools for longer than other states? I do believe a cluster at school was major influence on a Victorian covid second wave.
Point is, Andrews has not been perfect in managing this pandemic, but neither has any Premier or the Prime Minister. Yet the media attacks on Dan Andrews would have you believe he is entirely to blame for anything that goes wrong, and should be held solely responsible for it.
The media have had it in for Dan Andrews since the second wave became apparent. He has apologised for the outbreak coming from hotel quarantine. He didnât make it happen - he trusted well established security firms to manage it, and they failed. Whereâs the scrutiny of them?
Iâm not a Victorian, but from what I hear from Victorians, the constant harassment of Andrews by the media pack is doing nothing to help them understand how they should be dealing with this crisis, nor how much worse it could be if they werenât taking the measures they are.
Since journalists believe they are perfect and any scrutiny of their behaviour is unjustified, Iâm sure if any of them lowered themselves to read this thread, theyâd be 100% sure Iâm in the wrong, not them. Thatâs part of the problem, isnât it. Entrenched bias is entrenched. End.
