⠀ an analyze about Eren and Armin bond]

There is no question regarding how chapter 131 is probably one of the best in the series, taking place in some aot stans fav chapter lists as it flashes out more of Eren's inner thoughts mixing his sorrow with the brutality of his actions+
but after be influenced by a poll i saw it earlier, i decided to write about my favorite part of this chapter, that relies on Armin and Eren (i know it doesn't seems like by how i freaked over Armin's confession to Annie, but ignore that, i was excited and shocked)+
I really love how Isayama brought back the dream Armin and Eren shared once (again lmao).

Despite the paths interaction that was really confusing at first, Eren and Armin's monologue in this chapter are truly amazing+
and settled to me that Armin is the character who has the strongest bond and probably understands Eren the most.

They shared the same dream and this dream (that was the initial trigger to Eren), is the knife that polished the concept of what freedom is to Eren+
Armin's books opened Eren's eyes about the walls. Armin showed Eren a dream and they chased this dream through their lives together, but when they got a bit closer of the true beginning, the upsetting truth slashed on them and they eventually began to diverge of each other +
In their sense of value, what at some point made the fans (me included) think of how Armin didn't understand Eren at all.

But this chapter, just give us a insight of their shared dream by Armin's perspective (who we didn't see talk about this dream after the ocean scene)+
In this chapter we see Armin ranting about the world they found.

"it was different from the world we saw in our dreams" - Armin

"when i learned that humanity lived outside the walls... i was disappointed" - Eren

These two lines together in this chapter opened my eyes+
I thought Reiner understood Eren the most.

They're basically two sides of the same coin. Their duty/guilt internal conflict created a "bond" that relies around a mutual understanding. They understood what each other did, and why they did, because in the end they were the same+
To me this was the strongest bond Eren had post time-skip after the plot influence me to think Armin never truly understood Eren, but in a single chapter Isayama made me change my mind. In fact, i believe Armin is the one who probably understand Eren the most after all+
The world in their dreams, a dream and a promise they had over their entire lives, the reason they kept moving forward, was completely different from the world they found. A world full of injustice and cruelty, a world that forced them to kill and become monsters to keep living+
a world that denied their freedom, their chance of explore the unknown and a world that denied their rights of exist.

The world presented to them is a word Eren doesn't consider worthy explore it. The promise and the dream they had were crushed by the reality+
Eren was disappointed, and no one ever will understand how Eren must have felt better than Armin who shared the same dream and had the same shock of reality.

Armin is the one who better understand this disappointment, it's shown in his expression+
Before, Armin ranted about how he also is a monster, killing people, betraying his comrades and the place he was born, the guilty over it. After we see Eren debate the morality of his own actions, about he is not a hero and his actions are wrong and he is killing people.
And the most amazing part of this convo is how this dream is the key point between their friendship, but also about their difference of values+
While Eren considers this world only brought them pain and suffering, not worth of explore, and he is currently drowning in the sorrow and guilty of his sense of duty + still having this innocent wish of reach that freedom he so much wished (represented by kid Eren)+
Armin relies on hope. Even with all the cruelty this world has shown to them, Armin wants to believe in the better.

He wants to believe that maybe there is still a beauty hidden in this cruel world worthy of explore (which phrase does that seem similar too btw?)+
This dream was the starting point to Eren and Armin's characters, and this chapter let it pretty clear it's also one of the key points to their character's closure.

Now we must see which value will persist. The regret over what reality shown, or the hope for what may come.
