why "i gotta feeling" by the black eyed peas is communist propaganda; a thread
let's start off with this scene from the video. a group of partygoers completely bypasses a row of newspaper stands. this is because they know that institutions such as the LA Times or the Daily News only put out bourgeois propaganda & that they r better off joining the "party."
a scene follows depicting someone on a bicycle, a form of transport commonly used by the proletariat, spilling paint on the hollywood walk of fame. this symbolizes the rejection of bourgeois celebrity culture and the elite in favor of the progressive spirit of the masses.
this object is depicted above the partygoers. it symbolizes the vile, evil beast that is US imperialism, which dangles its head over the masses, however, when united together in a "party" the masses can escape its terror, create their own spaces, and overthrow it.
many of the lyrics of "i gotta feeling" have hidden messages as well. lyrics such as "go out and smash it," "burn the roof," "now we on top," and "let's do it" conveys revolutionary spirit by saying there is a "feeling" that there'll be victory soon, led by a vanguard party.
it also speaks to the disenchantment of the masses: by repeating the days of the week it emphasizes the slavish cycle of labor under capitalism. "jump out that sofa" and "party every day" signifies the work that must be done to achieve revolution.
lastly, the song was released a week b4 the 119th birthday of ho chi minh & the 138th anniversary of the fall of the paris commune. the song became the 1st in US digital history to hit >7 million digital copies on the 126th anniversary of the death of karl marx. coincidence? no!
y'all better make this go viral it took me so much time lmao
