The story of Lehonti and Amalickiah(Alma 47) is one of my favorite Book of Mormon examples of how Satan works. He is smart, relentless, and cunning. He wants nothing more then for our soul to be in eternal suffering. He'll do anything to to accomplish that goal

As the Lamanites are preparing for war with the Nephites, a portion of the Lamanites want nothing to dow ith it. They've seen their armies get pummeled by the Nephites and do not want to fall to the same end as their brethren. This group chose a man named Lehonti...

to be their leading and they fled to a nearby mountain. Naturally the king was very upset. So he gave an awful man named Amalickiah command over his army and told him to bring the army back from the mountain.

In Alma 47:6 we learn that these men were, "fixed in their minds with a determined resolution that they would anot be subjected to go against the Nephites." They wer eup in the mountain to stay and wanted nothing to do with this war that their king wanted.

Amalickiah had his own desires. He knew if he could get these guys on his side, his power would be tremendous. HE asked Lehonti to come down so they could have a "chat" about the whole situation. Lehonti refused 3 times. (Alma 47:10-11)

Amalickiah, seeing that they really were, "Fixed in their minds with a determined resolution," figured he would come up almost all the way to the top of the mountain and that Lehonti could bring down his guard to just outside the city wall.

Lehonti agrees and they meet. Amalickiah give a great proposal. "Come down, take control of my army, and just make me second in command." (Alma 47:13). Lehonti though that was a great idea, which it could have been, except Amalickiah had other plans.

After Lehonti took control of the army(47:15) He made Amalickiah second in commanded. After this was completed, Amalickiah was then able to have "his servants should administer poison by degrees to Lehonti, that he died."

How often do we see big temptations in our lives and think, "Oh I would never do that, that is outrageous." You might think of these sins as infidelity in marriage or fornication before, murder, theft, abuse, ect. We often may find ourselves
9/15
"Fixed in our minds with a determined resolution" that we will not be subjected to commit some heinous sin. Satan knows this. So what does he do? He comes up to our level. He says, "come down just a little bit."
10/15
Satan says, "Watch this rated r movie and skip that bad parts," or "Let that inappropriate Tik Tok video play one more time." Or if he sees us really starting to struggle, "There's nothing wrong with that pornographic website. You're just watching it, it hurts no one else"
11/15
Next thing you know, Satan is poising you by degrees until you feel like you're in the gall of all bitterness. As President James E Faust said, “Just one fix of [insert your sin of choice] won’t hurt me. “There is no controlling drugs. It controls you...
12/15
The first time, you usually feel nothing. That’s when it grabs you.”

We know in the end who will be the victor. Alalickiah met his end courtesy of a javelin to the chest, so too will Satan finish on the losing side.

Those of us who follow Jesus Christ, know we have the Holy Ghost to protect and warn us when danger is coming. We have the Atonement of Jesus Christ also enables us to over come sin and cleanse ourselves when we do sin. 14/15
We all need to look for those sins that bring us down "just a little bit." Do everything you can to rid yourselves of these sins. Doing so will help you stay high on your spiritual mountain keeping your companionship of the Holy Ghost, and enduring to the end.
