This kind of thing is why I say that nothing makes me hate Lan Xichen like his fans, because they excuse all of this shit and I have yet to see someone line up justifications that don't make me think: "Wow, Lan Xichen *sucks*."

On some level I'm still not over that meta about how every shitty thing Lan Xichen said and did was justified because he saw his clan die at Nightless City.

Wei Wuxian spent so long trying to warn them off instead of just killing them that it got Jiang Yanli killed, and he STILL didn't immediately attack.

If he was the monster they were claiming, there would have been no survivors.

Let us also note that Lan Xichen's ongoing refusal to stand against injustice in ANY FUCKING WAY AT ALL also includes never once refuting the allegations that WWX killed 3,000 people at Nightless City, despite LXC being one of those people and not dead

I saw a modern AU, I think it was a twitfic, in which Lan Xichen worked for the ACLU, and I thought that was really appropriate because the ACLU talk a good game but they're actually awful and piously act in ways that get good people killed
