Analyses of mental health that don't account for oppressive social constructs are deeply flawed and also far too common imo
It's the classic 'blame school shootings on deranged individuals rather than investigate and indict the violence of the white patriarchy'
But it's also true across interpersonal relationships. The thought, I believe, is that if you can say that someone is mentally ill and that any friction is even *likely* the result of that illness, then you can distance yourself from any other possible variances (e.g. yourself)

It's easy to blame suicide on mental illness, but it's hard to look at the way we as individuals and a collective all too often fail survivors
