This effectively makes the opposite point. Few call themselves Marxist because of Marx the man, they do it because of the ideas and mode of analysis. Noam Chomsky has made this same point and I know that he's deeply influenced Robinson, moreso than Marx. Would he object to being called a Chomskyan?
Broad statements like "Insight is collective not individual" are admittedly a pet peeve of mine. Sometimes insight is collective, sometimes it's individual. I don't think you have to totally reject individualism to be Marxist, but hey, that's just my interpretation!
