Every time I see another one of those articles that's like, "Gen Z Kids Make Fun of Millennials for Doing/Loving/Constantly Talking About [insert symbol for our general disillusionment, exhaustion, and poverty here]" I crack up laughing--no joke, I'm not mad in the slightest
Because like 99% of the time, it's not like they're wrong lmao but also, like. You know what? I get it, y'all. I get that you're seeing the dumpster fire that is your current environment and looking at your immediate elders going, "Why aren't you DOING SOMETHING?"
I mean, trust me, a lot of us are asking ourselves the same thing. But you gotta understand, y'all have known from jump that things were a disaster. We...didn't. Well, a lot of us didn't, anyway.
A whole lot of us grew up being desperately sold the ever-growing chopped and screwed American Dream (yes this thread is v US-centric and v much from a white perspective I know, bear with me) from the time we could comprehend words and then it just...tanked, completely.
Like, for a lot of us, there's still so much of this that seems like it's a personal failing and not a massive societal one? So, y'know, yeah, we talk a lot about The Office and drinking gas station wine and eating pizza rolls in the bathtub but like, we're AWARE of what it means
Like, guys, you don't have to TELL US how sad it is. That's...that's the whole joke. Bc that kind of thing is all we have lmao. Like esp the gas station wine in the bathtub thing, I'm sorry, but that shit is still funny. Look at how fancy we are~
When we're doing that, we're remembering the fancy dishes our moms and grandmas used to display and only break out on Christmas while we drink our crappy days away with glorified spiked juice out of a Dixie Cup. Like, we know what's up.
And I genuinely don't know how to say this without sounding like a downer, but like...you know what? It's fine. I ain't even mad about you making fun of me, as long as you're funny about it. Don't waste an opportunity there. There's NO WAY you can hate us more than we do, kids.
