This was a really brave thing for Earyn to share. Pls read it.

At some point, #SciComm, we need to have a deep, uncomfortable conversation about POWER. I learned from @Hood_Biologist’s work, anti-racism work is anti-capitalist work & I believe that applies to science twitter. https://twitter.com/afro_herper/status/1291165370594795520
There’s still a lot to keep learning & keep growing from in order to ensure that the SciComm & Science spaces we create IRL & digitally are places where everyone—especially Black, Indigenous, Trans, NB, Folx w/ disabilities in STEM—can truly thrive in.

It’s necessary hard work.
We also need to make space in #SciComm & #Science for discussing how & why (even in the months since May’s #ShutdownSTEM movements), many minorities & allies have kept prioritizing/placating the feelings of people in power being held accountable.

It’s embedded Model Minorityism.
There are more out there who’ve experienced pain and harm like @itatiVCS has and it’s on all of us to deeply learn from what’s happening (those involved and bystanders alike) to change the culture & the system so it doesn’t happen again.
