Currently reading cursedrn and thought I’d share my thoughts as I read. in a thread. First of all, I haven’t watched the show but I do know some characters. I’ve also seen some spoilers for the Weeping Monk’s tho & I ship nimulot. That’s all I know about the show

I also decided to read the book first cause
1. I like making comparisons to the book & adaption
2. I haven’t seen anyone else read it lol or the ones who have I haven’t seen talk about it very much

3. Though, I already like the weeping monk I’ll try to be as unbiased as I can and I won’t hate on anyone, unless they’re being a a$$hole then my hate towards them is justified

4. Fck the book is 400 pages with an epilogue and like a million chapters, but I like short chapters so it’s a positive

Chapter 1
I already love her

We’re already opening on a massacre wtf

Wow....it’s literally the second page

Bruh calm down there literally just tiny animal bones Carden and the Red Paladins are going wild for some bones

He said “inquisition” and my dumb ass immediately thought of the Spanish Inquisition

My weeping monk boi is here murdering innocent people or is just watching/waiting for Carden he’s just sitting there wtf

Weeping monk watching Carden and Red Paladins murder innocent Fey:

He almost ran over squirrel I can’t
He said:

“I can’t find papa” squirrel cried”.....so who’s gunna tell him

Nimue what did you do girl. Everyone is literally dying and she said it’s all her fault I- it’s cause she does magic and sh!t I bet

Chapter 2

So now I guess squirrel is gone???? He came then left, like a true king

So the “Sky Folk” is the name of the people where Nimue lived RIP basically all of them they’re all 100% dead. Nimue is not descended from them.

Her clan are believed to be descended from the “Hidden” which are people or more like a power that come from the “Iron Woods” ...okay

Nimue is turning into a god damn tree

Oh so this is the past I’m dumb

These sky folk are real a holes

Wait Nimue is 16??? Am I reading that right? Idk

So she got scars on her back from a dark spirit trying to kill her but the Hidden saved her. I’m beginning to think that the Hidden are rlly nice even if the Sky folk obviously dislike them...it...idk

Chapter 3

Pym is Nimue’s bff, I think I’ve seen her before in some pics I don’t remember. She’s described as, “tall and gangly”

Moon Wings are also a clan of people. They live in the trees and look like them too. And both the Sky Folk and the Moon Wings hate each other.

wow the Weeping Monk is rlly dark. So his clan, the Red Paladins, like putting people on crosses o k a y for committing sins... I’m guessing

Wtf the Sky Folk now know the Red Paladins are coming for them but this Florentin dude is worried that theyre not going to be able to sell their goods???? Bruh everyone is going to die y’all should be away running rn Nimue has the right idea she’s the only smart one here rn

Her horse is called Dusk Lady??? What’s with this book and having basic but weird names. Like Red Paladins sound cool but Sky Folk, Moon Wings, and Dusk Lady? Like they all sound funny to me idk it’s fantasy after all

Btw Dusk Lady is a palfrey which I didn’t know what that was till rn+ this is what I think Dusk Lady looks like sorta like a dark chestnut color (hence the “Dusk” in her name)

Alright so Fey women wear their hair down while “women in town” wear it in a “wimple or head covering” (I’m guessing a veil) so it’ll look like this

“...I’m going to stop you (from leaving)...” Pym love....you got on Nimues horse and ran away and y’all are already in Hawksbridge congrats you stopped her from leaving

And now they can’t leave I guess Pym’s plan did work out after all

“The Fingers of Airmid” are those green vine things that have been growing on Nimues face, and apparently they’re bad or something or at least the Fey don’t like it or something

Chapter 4

I already know this flirty gray eyed singer is Arthur 100%

It is he’s hot and sings

And he’s a knight yessssss

Oh no his knight friends are a bunch of a hole misogynistic men

Nimue is wagering a kiss with one of the men so she can get some $$ I can’t-

Nimue is using the Hidden to get chest hehehe

“Best two out of three? Seems fair” HELL NAH BOI

Wow....well....that just happened

Chapter 5

Arthur rides a black courser, I’m learning more about horses than anything else in this book rn jk (this is what I think Arthur’s horse looks like)

Damn Nimue pushed Pym off she’s supposed to be on the horse too

Omg Arthur’s horse is called fcking Egypt

And another person is called Ring Nose

Wonder what this means is Arthur Fey of some kind?

Chapter 6

Wtf since when did Uther have wolves

Uther is 26 yrs old c o o l

And Merlin doesn’t have powers!?!?! or at least hasn’t had powers for almost 17 yrs. and he also drinks a lot... great a non magical Merlin who drink too much... thats exactly what I need rn

So “Father Carden” is the boss of the Red Paladins as I guessed, but why are they killing only Fey is it supposed to remove sin or something

So Merlin is a Fey.... and there’s a group of people called the “Shadow Lords”...these names are going to be the death of me

Damn these Shadow Lords sound cool as hell

No they did not just say “...the Ice King...” these names...either I like them or I rlly don’t I can’t decide

Uther just did a “My mommy just told me told me...” bruh you’re 26 pls stop

Chapter 7

We’re back to the beginning now

The Weeping Monk is here ....and now he’s killing all of them

I feel bad cause now....I’m hungry I think I going to attempt to make Crispels they look cute. RIP those 7 dudes tho

Yup that’s sad (Squirrel and the Weeping Monk’s second meet up btw)

Now Lenore wants Nimue to go to Merlin okay. Now she’s dead oof

“nto” I got to give give this book a break, it is a first edition

So Merlin sees this in the sky ew I suck at drawing... im guessing that’s a bad omen. And he says, “A magical child. The end of a prophecy. And the death of a king.”

Chapter 8

So it looks likes one of these... I think idk

I got to admit...this is sounds kinda cool. The most interesting scene by far

Now Merlin has a huge ass sword scar/burn in a LITERAL shape of a sword. This thing better be huge in the show like it goes from his shoulder to his thigh I want to see that

Well that’s pretty anticlimactic huh

Well that’s a cool drawing and those gloves are everything ... and now Nimue is killing a bunch of Red Paladins

Chapter 9

Nimue made them stab themselves

“The Red Paladins were nothing more than unrecognizable lumps of meat” damn Nimue go off

Wtf is the “Devils Tooth (a unique shape: a branch with three stems)” so the sword creats tooth like scars alright... weird sword

The sword is called “The Sword of Power”

Carden- “At all costs this child (Nimue) must be cleansed.”

Wtf Carden just said “come here BOI” to weeping monks neck calm down sir he isn’t going anywhere...

Nimue wants to go back to the thirst king Arthur

Nimue just pulled a Mulan and cut off all her hair wtf

Nope

The Red Paladins are calling Nimue “The Wolf-Blood Witch”

Well Pym is probably... dead

Go off Nimue I hate Bors too

Now Arthur and Nimue are on a hunt for Merlin cute and Arthur is giving big badass vibes

Chapter 11

That’s a nice drawing. Arthur seems to really not want to get involved into Nimue’s problems and I mean I can’t blame him, but he’s already in too deep so he has no choice but to help

Arthur really thought about leaving Nimue just so he could take the sword and reclaim his honor boi you better stop

He rlly is Arthur huh? wanting to reclaim what honor he lost in the eyes of his friends

And now she’s awake and he saw her scars awkward

“Ignorant man blood”

A Demon bear gave Nimue her scars when she was 5???

That’s rlly good, Frank Miller has a very unique style and it rlly works well with this book

That ending tho Nimue said “y’all hear somethin?” to those screams.

She said “they’re fine...I think”

Chapter 12

This book is suddenly getting interesting

This is a beautiful drawing good job Frank Miller idk what scene it is tho, but it’s still pretty

I feel the same Arthur

Chapter 13

Why do I get the feeling that Nimue’s dad wanted to killed her with the medicine he gave her just cause he was scared of the scars f u Jonah

So Nimue’s dad basically ran away from her cause he was scared of her scars That fcking sucks f Nimue’s dad f u Jonah

Bruv Nimue needs to chill she’s going to get herself and Arthur killed

She found a group of them in the water and now theyre dead meat

Nimue is god damn laughing while killing them good for her tho

I love the Paladins names Falto, Gunyon, Lenso....then there’s just Thomas

We got an Arthur back story and it’s sad af. His dad was too sweet and they killed him for it

Btw I never knew these round balls at the end of a sword is called a pommel it’s weird that it just makes sense... probably I did know idk I feel like I’ve read it somewhere else before, but I probably skimmed over it and didn’t feel bothered to google what it was till rn

I think Carden’s seal looks something like this, but way prettier and much more redder red

Now Arthur and Nimue are on the hunt for all of the Paladins+Carden

Now they have two horse Nimue is riding a “dirty snow” one I think the horse would look like this

Nimue started simping for Arthur then began thinking of Pym omfg

Chapter 15

So I’m guessing Morgan is Morgan la Fey/Morgana/Morgaine.

I’ve nvr rlly liked most versions of her that have been on tv etc(Merlins Morgana was rlly good at making me love her then hate her then regret hating her by seeing how desperately she just wanted to be loved & accepted so I liked her in there) I might like also this version too

So its staying with the whole Morgan is Arthur’s half sister okay good cause it seemed like they were going down a route that was ew but they’re indeed half siblings in here good good

That’s what I’ve been saying Morgan “good for her” Nimue needs a supportive friend rn

So “The Sword of Power” could’ve been called “The Sword of the First Kings”. The latter is 100% better but I’m going to have to suffer through “Sword of Power” aren’t I

It seems its also called the “Devils Tooth” too which I mean anything is better than “The Sword of Power”

“Pretty to look at but not much going on upstairs” damn Morgan roasting Arthur without chill go girl

I think it’s fair to say I rlly like Morgan

Chapter 16

Alright so Morgan is helping a bunch of Fey kind/clan refugees hide in a cave queen sh!t

Nimue slept for TWO DAYS ?!?!?!? bruh wtf

Damn all the Fey hate Arthur cause he’s “too human” poor thing

All the Fey like Nimue cause she killed Paladins good for her/them

Chapter 17

Oooo so this new “Widow” person is a Shadow Lord cool & Merlin and her are bffs

And she’s mad that Merlin lied about The Sword of Power not being destroyed, of course Merlin lied

You’re telling me this Sword is going to cause a god damn war a “War of the Sword” I can’t- Can Nimue just become Queen cause she’s the only one who’s wielding it rn

So the Widow is looking for her husband that’s been lost at sea for years... I got bad news for ya luv

The Widow is the “Shadow Lord of the Dying” cool

Merlin wants to destroy the sword and I mean I’m kinda with him at this point

“The Sword is cursed and will corrupt all who wield it.” Ah hell nah I’m 100% melt that boi team go Merlin go!!!!

We need “Fey Fire” why is everything so hard when you gotta destroy cursed items GOD

Back to Nimue

“The Green Knight” sounds hot af

I do the same thing Nimue we’re such teasers it’s honestly embarrassing

1. I understand Morgan wants Nimue to gain her true potential but how is she going to do that if she’s so stuck on Arthur. It’s not the best to tell her to leave him when she struggles with her father leaving HER

she’ll feel like she’s just repeating his cycle and therefore no better than him.

2. At this point of the book I don’t really feel the whole Nimue is the “Wolf-Blood Witch”. I don’t feel it cause she only killed a few Paladins and the Fey suddenly worship her idk.

3. But I mean it takes one person to begin a revolution so yeah I think it does make sense for them to pick the one who’s the most known and feared by the Paladins

4. Imagine someone you met two days ago calls you and her “Blood sisters” yeah it’s a no for me Morgan but I do like that she already trusts Nimue it makes me feel like I can trust her.

5. “You’ve shown they can die. That matters. You’ve broken the myth and that’s why they hunt you the way they do. They know your power even if you don’t.” I feel like the “you” is also implying the readers and that we don’t know what Nimue is capable of.

I definitely get a sense that we’ve only scratched the surface of Nimue’s powers rn

Chapter 19

Back to Merlin

I’m imagining Merlin just going completely limp while he’s being dragged by the leper’s and it’s making me ugly cry

Merlin when the leper’s are carrying him:

They have a king called the Leper Ling

Saying Leper King also makes me giggle

Wait they actually have leprosy???? I can’t-

Wait they purposefully get leprosy say sike rn!!!!!!

They sacrifice their bodies to leprosy and to dark magic in order to get something called “Witch Sight” it sounds like what Nimue has but she was forced to be sacrificed to dark magic so it’s a bit different. It must be how the weeping monk also got his scars too, by dark magic

Why is this literally the most terrifying thing in the whole book I better see him in the show or else that description is insane. He’s literally missing 7 fingers wtf fcking fantastic

Now Merlin is making an alliance with the leper king with a necklace ? (The torque of Boudicca) idk what that is but he took it from the Widow so I guessing it’s got to be important

Chapter 20

Mcxcuse me b!tch????? Yeva wtf

Apparently Yeva just knows that Nimue isn’t Fey??? And has a connection to the “many worlds”????? And not to mention Yeva can apparently find random scars on Nimue, but can’t find Merlin yup I hate it here

And why does the “many worlds” sound like the “world between worlds” my reylo a$$ is seeing stuff

Why does Yeva look like The Goblin King and why do I like it...

Chapter 21

Okay so Rugen/Leper King has Fey fire and Merlin wants to snatch it cool cool

Now Merlin is drunk... great

Bruh I’m laughing Merlin just said “you’re so strong ” to Rugen

He’s flirting his way out of this lol

And Merlin just snatched the keys to the room with the Fey fire fcking fantastic. Merlin is quickly becoming my fav character

Damn Merlin looks a lot older than I thought he’d be in here oof Frank Miller did him dirty

Chapter 22

Oh forgot to mention, Nimue sent a letter to Merlin basically threatening him to help her protect the Fey and in return he’ll get the sword lol threatening always works right???

btw Morgan wrote the letter so the threatening part kinda makes sense lol
