I had a manager who had our design team update our personal portfolios every quarter. It startled a lot of people who wondered why she would have us do that. The more you let go, the more you enable retention.

A few examples of what resonated throughout the process...
Great managers work on career development for their team members for not only while they are at the company and go beyond. I still talk to many former direct reports about career development and always will be there for them.
Updated your portfolio gives you a moment to document what you've done. Since many portfolios are case studies, it gives you time to position your work to focus on impact.
I've often seen after you have people update their portfolio, they are so proud of what they've done that it re-ignites what they're working on and motivated to stay even longer.
Updating your portfolio should be ongoing and a reflection tool and not only for prepping for departure.
