It took me years to understand that the negative things that people say about movements for racial justice are purposeful to obfuscate the issues at hand. The negative statements aren’t tied to the essential nature of the issues at hand. Usually, they are tangential. 1/5
For example, I remember hearing stories about the voting rights march from Selma to Montgomery being an “orgy” with drugs all over the camps at night. These are the tactics of those who understand that their essential arguments about the issues are too weak to slow movement. 2/5
This is what I hear when someone dismisses the current conversation about racial justice by saying that the Black Lives Matter Movement is Marxist. The issues raised are related to reform of policing and the justice system. 3/5
Yet, because on org has Marxist roots, the movement is tainted. The best way to make the organization that is feared irrelevant is to actually address the issues at the forefront. 4/5
Want to make sure the Marxist roots of BLM don’t take hold? Vocally support the concerns of black Americans regarding policing, education, etc. 5/5
