Made my 1st food box delivery for Front Range Mutual Aid Network. Food rescue such a radical act! A volunteer told me: "Come before yr delivery & shop our food- then donate $ to us instead going to King Soopers. Eliminating the idea of haves & have-nots is part of our work, too"
I think I've over-complicated the idea of mutual aid in my mind & grew up thinking "charity" and volunteerism were the only ways- but how does that break down the systems that serve some and not others? This short interaction today made me realize that mutual aid goes much deeper
I'm also joe shmoe day one participant in a glorious system of mutual aid that exists in my community because of the hard work of others. I don't know shit! But I'm stoked because I was there for all of 10 minutes and felt like I actually belonged there, which is half the battle
