i’m going to start putting any therapy/counselling/life tips i get here in a thread (over time) for you guys, i couldn’t afford therapy my whole life and maybe you can’t either. you shouldn’t have to pay for info on how to live better ☹️💗
if you’re starting to feel particularly anxious try blowing bubbles through a straw (use a reusable one, and bring it everywhere if you have panic attacks often if you can/want) in water or whatever is handy AND/OR get an ice cube or cold drink and put it against your wrist
i always thought journalling was kind of dumb, until i realized that having those entries to look back at helped me realize what situations caused me the most anxiety. try to log those moments when you remember somewhere (phone, notepad, wherever !) or even try logging for 3 days
after you log for a few days even you will notice your major triggers, you can start questioning those triggers and learn more about them because you are becoming more aware of how you respond to things
i’ve been learning a lot through the help of a retired therapist who agreed to help me out while i continue to sit on the forever long waitlist for counseling so here’s some great info she sent me:
another weird thing that helps when anxiety is coming on is singing or talking, even if you’re not a great singer ! each use the breath to slow the heart rate and bring the body back to homeostasis ! try reading a book out loud or singing along to your favourite album ☀️
we’ve just recently started talking about reality acceptance, it’s tough. our anxiety isn’t going away and quite frankly we don’t want it to, not completely. anxiety actually saves us in many situations, but we need to learn to reduce feelings of anxiety when we’re not in danger
we talk a lot about the physical aspects, the science behind these reactions and feelings. more pics to come & then i’m done for tonight ⭐️ hope this helps even one person with their growth & healing 🌿
very interesting stuff, it’s a lot to think about. just know that if you’re struggling with anxiety, depression, ptsd or anything else that it’s not your fault, a lot of these feelings are learned or already within you but you can learn new ways of living this isn’t it for you 💗
