Today, I declared racism to be a public health crisis in Michigan and created the Black Leadership Advisory Council.

#COVID19 has highlighted what Black & Brown communities have always known — inequities caused by systemic racism can be deadly.

We’re confronting this head on.

The Council, consisting of Black leadership in economics, public policy, health, technology, environment, agriculture, arts and culture, will develop, review, and recommend policies and actions designed to eradicate and prevent discrimination and racial inequity in Michigan.

We have a lot of work to do, but these are important steps on the path to building an inclusive state that works for everyone.
