There are good faith concerns that have been raised about investigating Trump officials. But here are some reasons why they don't override the need to defend the rule of law. /2
What about setting a bad precedent? The bad precedent is Trump using DOJ as a political weapon - the question is how we respond. And failing to hold the Trump administration accountable will lead to further attacks on the rule of law. /3
What about the need to unite the country by moving on? It is far more divisive to ignore Trump administration abuses and not defend the rule of law.

While people point to Nixon's pardon, people in his administration were investigated and held accountable. /4
What about the worry that an investigation will be called political and distract from important priorities? That's why the process must be led by career officials without WH involvement.

We shouldn't let concerns about partisan attacks lead us to abandon the rule of law. /end
