I feel like there’s always this extreme amount of focus on the fact that writers need to be open to feedback but a book has your name on it so ultimately you need to feel good about what’s inside it. Don’t just agree to any changes. You know what’s best for your work https://twitter.com/rickit/status/1290831719969566725
There’s a difference from being an asshole that gets notes and replies STET to every single note without any consideration of what the person was saying and someone who is like I hear you but that’s not my book so I’m gonna approach this a different way or not at all.
As someone who thinks that I revise well, as someone who LOVES feedback, I’ve had to learn the hard way that I can’t just let anyone give me feedback and that I need to really hone my circle of trusted people (including agent, editor, writer friends) who read my work
This industry is really really subjective. Books that people have totally hated, others love. Things that people say wouldn’t sell, eventually do. You’ve gotta figure out what book YOU are writing and how to get it to that point
