We’re closing this twitter feed down. Here’s why (a thread).

Volunteer Special Constables in Essex are fully embedded into the 3 Roads Policing Units. We have officers at @EP_RPU_North, @EP_RPU_South and at the Road Crime Team @EPRoadsPolicing.
Volunteers have been equipped with the same training that paid road policing constables receive to enable them to support @EssexPoliceUK in a roads policing context. We have volunteers trained in the use of ANPR equipment, the police national computer system, vehicle seizures,
roadside screening devices for breath alcohol & @DrugWipeUK, field impairment testing, speed lasers, tintman, vehicle prohibition, station intoximeter devices and stingers. In addition, some are trained to interview suspects and drive all sorts of cars under response and
and pursuit conditions. We have specials on the motorcycle unit working alongside their regular colleagues on a seamless basis.

If you’ve had dealings with a roads policing officer in Essex recently, you probably couldn’t tell if they were a volunteer or a regular officer.
So we’ve taken the decision to publish our activities through the same twitter accounts that our regular colleagues use. Please follow @EP_RPU_North if you want to know what our North officers are up to, @EP_RPU_South for the South and @EPRoadsPolicing for our specials on the
Road Crime Team & motorcycle unit.

We think that Essex is the best place in the country to be a volunteer police officer. If you’re interested in joining us please check out @EssexPoliceUK to find out how to join us.

Thank you for your support.
