I got a call this morning that my cousin was shot and killed Saturday night. His family wasn't notified until this morning. Police believe it was drug related but I'm not sure what his involvement was. He served as an army sniper in Afghanistan. He came home in 2011.
He was addicted to benzodiazepines for several years and spoke of suicide with family members. He moved around a lot. He never married or had children. He was never able to shake his drug dependence or live a stable life. As saddened as I am by his death I am also angry.
I'm angry that he was broken by a needless war. I'm also angry that he remained broken because we've all been so pushed into our bubbles of individualism and White people have had their families and communities atomized by the same forces that compelled us into the needless war.
To paraphrase Sam Hyde: White people aren't dying out, They're being killed off. And the people killing us have names and addresses.
