Just as an example, something a lot of women who work in academia have told me is that they feel that if you want to be taken seriously as a professor as a younger woman you need to dress up and insist on formal modes of address (“Professor so-and-so.”)
But then if men (especially white men on the older side) can get away with being more casual while still being seen as approrpiately authoritative and professorial, it makes the women come across as stuffy/scoldy.

A strong, but achievable, formality norm would be more inclusive.
Like to me this is a disrespectful way of dressing for an event with the President of the United States.

It’s a way of saying “I’m so rich the rules don’t apply to me.”

We should have rules and follow them.
