Earlier in the day, ASUU kept appearing on and off the trend table. I had a sneak peak and saw it was because of the comparison between what's currently going on with ASUU loyalists and the private schools. I decided to ask questions on how the online system was successful.
The truth is that ASUU aint no saint but neither is the Federal Government. ASUU went on strike on the 9th of April and are yet to resume. Prior to that time, they were owed 2 months salary and the MWA promised was yet to be paid. Some members are yet to receive salaries even now
By that, I mean that some people are being owed Feb to July salaries, some Feb to May then July. But that aside. Why are u guys dragging ASUU alone? Why is the government not dragged? This is what some private schools did to ensure education continued online.
1. The staff were trained on zoom on how to go about their online classes.
2. For tests and exams, one of the private schools used an app that was monitored (but allowed for written, fill in the blanks and objectives) while being monitored on zoom
3. Each department was assigned
...an ICT rep to help staff and students with ICT problems
LIMITATIONS
1. Poor attendance
2. Finance:
a. Some students couldn't afford data, some don't have android phones and couldn't catch up with classes. However, phones can be borrowed for exams and monitored as well
b. The lecturers paid for data and all from their pockets (which is not supposed to be and there's no hope for reimbursement which in return affects the output of the lecturer).
3. Location: Some students are from network covered areas and not all could make up with the process
These brief conclusions were gotten from 2 private universities (not Babcock or covenant).
If the FG wants the school to resume, they should do the needful. Pay up. Salaries, pay MWA, sponsor training of federal government staff for moving classes online.
Also, students should be considered and means of making things easier for them to keep up with the class should be made available. However, for life sciences and others which require actual practical, I don't know what can be done about that but it's a bad idea to graduate...
...students that have just theory knowledge. The government is quick to act on anything else but matters that affects the FTI's and security. It's rather unfortunate. Well let's see as things goes. Congratulations to those who graduated this year.
