North Carolina's Covid numbers are definitely moving in the right direction. Today's new cases are the lowest since June 25. In the last week, Covid like illness and hospitalizations are down, % positive has been dropping and was under 6% today.
BUT, the @RoyCooperNC is likely worried about college campus spread if he allows bars to open or allows more people to gather indoors.
Since we are learning that outdoor spread is much less likely than indoor, he should raise the limits on outdoor gatherings. Basically tell the college kids, if you are going to party, do it outside.
Likewise, he should let the playgrounds open since surface contact transmission is really rare.
He should say we are going to open a few more things, but you still need to wear masks. He should also move to weekly updates to restrictions. If numbers keep going in the right direction, we open up a little more each week.
His message should be, we are winning, but we have not won. D-Day didn't win WWII, but we were moving in the right direction. By my reading of the data, that's about where we are in NC.
The previous all presumes that the healthcare pros have concluded the same about transmission risks and what NC's data are saying.
Anyway, I'm not in the room where it happens, but if I were, that'd be my advice for the Governor.
