For people who aren& #39;t too familiar with stats, here& #39;s a quick cheat sheet:
Corsi - all shot attempts. Corsi For % isn& #39;t necessarily a measure of good or bad. One thing you can use it for is just possession. You have to have the puck to shoot it. https://twitter.com/projpatsummitt/status/1291021339726422016">https://twitter.com/projpatsu...

Fenwick (unblocked shot attempts) - the NHL doesn& #39;t record where blocked shots are taken, so we exclude them when looking at xG. The number itself is ok, but it& #39;s use for xG is more important
Shots - Shots on Goal, the stat everyone but NBC knows well

Expected Goals - this is where you can start to look at what KIND of shots happened. Josi and Ellis usually allow a lot of shot attempts against, but do so by forcing them from low danger areas.
Goals for/against or even +/-:
Ever walked into your brother or sisters room, and they& #39;ve destroyed the place and made a huge mess and then your parents walk in and you both get in trouble. Kind of like that. The goalie is like the babysitter who let it happen.

All of these metrics are good for one reason or another (except +/-), but using them effectively is using them together to paint a more informative picture.
Add the eye test, and baby, you& #39;ve got a stew going

I& #39;m missing a lot of the deeper nuances of this, but these are the basic ideas that I first learned a couple of years ago to get a grasp of what all those numbers and charts mean.
The good news is there are TONS of great resources and friendly people always willing to help

Seriously, learning analytics was kind of my gateway into learning more about hockey, and every single step of the way, I had people willing to drop everything to help me with something or teach me a concept I didn& #39;t understand.
Then again, now all those same people make fun of me for various reasons, but before that, it was awesome lol
