#Hiroshima75 #Nagasaki75 trend. The reasons why the US decided to drop 2 atom bombs and why Japan didn't surrendered when all was lost. Let's start in the beginning
In Japan's pre-WWII days but after it's medival times, Japan wanted more territory just like the West. From Boxers Rebellion and the First Shino-Japanese War to Russo-Japanese War, Japan gained more territory. After WWI, Japan takes Germany's Pacific Islands and China territories
In the late 1920s and in the 1930s, Japan went after China again, committing war crimes (i.e. Rape of Nanking). In the 40s, Japan gained French Indochina and Tailand from Vichy France. By 1941, Japanese Navy decided to commence a sneak attack on the US at Pearl Harbor.
After their attack, the Japanese military invaded UK, Dutch, and American territories. America declared war on Japan, resulting Germany and Itlay to declare war on the US. Japan attempts to invade islands that decide between Australia and New Zealand, in the Coral Sea.
The battle of the Coral Sea was a tie between both US and IJ Navies. But in 42, Midway was a crushing turning point in the war for Japan as they lost 4 aircraft carriers and experienced pilots. Since then, Japanese experienced the American Island Hopping campaign and lost many Is
In the late 40s (43, 44, and/or 45), Japan attempted to gain more territory in China and in India. While China was successful, the invasion of India was haulted in Imphal and Kohima and was pushed back by the UK and her allies. Back on the Pacific, the USN invades Iwo Jima
and won a long and bloody battle. In April 1945, US forces invaded Okinawa and like Iwo Jima, the battle was long and bloody on both sides. Meanwhile, the US Navy and Army Air Force made a combined effort to make Japan surrender.
By lowering their morale and by crippling their economy even more so. Unlike what the USAAF did to Germany, the USAAF bombed cities much like the RAF Bomber Command did to Germany, but used Napalm on wooden buildings. They also dropped naval mines on harbors.
While the USN, also bombed cities by using carrier aircraft and battleships and sunk ships by using submarines. Despite all of that, Japan refused to surrender. The US decided to drop Little Boy on Hiroshima in August 1945, but Japan or rather her military still refused.
Couple of days later on the same month, US dropped Fat Man. Meanwhile, the USSR declared war on Japan and invaded northern China and most of Korea. Despite Japan's situation, the military refused to give up while the politicians wanted to in fear of more Atom bombs and the Reds
Without making a decision, both factions asked their Emperor and explained the situation. In the end, Japan's Emperor gave the order to surrender thus resulting the end of WWII
So....why did it take so long for Japan to surrender and why did we drop 2 nukes? Japan was stuck their traditional ways of Bushido (the way of the warrior), meaning that surrendering brought great dishonor to both country and family, death is only an option.
Throughout their advances and retreating, the IJA has committed a mass human wave that the US Marines and Army would call, "Banzai charge" while the IJN and IJAAF committed suicide attacks on USN ships in which the both sides would call it, "Kamikaze"
As US forces got closer to Japan, casualties rose on both sides, espicially on Iwo Jima and on Okinawa. US commanders had thought of the invasion of Japan but thought about the casualties. It was rumored that it would be higher than the two Japanese islands combined.
Thus, the 2 Atom Bombs were dropped in order to make Japan surrender. Granted, it took those bombs, carpet firebombing, sinking ships by mines and submarines, and the Red Army to make them give up.
Now you know the full context. Not fully detailed, but reguardless that's how it went. Now why would I make this thread? It appears some people don't watch documentaries, read history books, and/or pay attention to history classes and I took the opportunity to tell them
To shut up and pay attention. Watch documentaries, read books, go to class, and/or watch or play video games that involve with WWII. Preferably that has "based on a true story" or "based on reak events." Stop saying the US was the bad guy in that scenario. Makes you look ignorant
