A few thoughts when updating, diversifying, and adding social justice into your syllabi (solely based on my experiences): 1. Ask for help on twitter. When I posted my original syllabus, I got so many great resources that I had no idea about or I had forgotten about. So many great
academics on here and there is a wonderful community. Take advantage of it!
2. Think critically about diversity and social justice. What types of perspectives are you missing and what voices would you like to hear? Also, what voices are you less familiar with? This is an
opportunity for you to learn a lot as well, not just your students.
3. Think beyond academic journals. Use blogs, podcasts, youtube videos, etc. There are so many great resources (e.g. https://www.philanthropyandsocialmovements.com/  by @meganfrancis)
4. Bring in guest speakers. Even before the coronavirus, I have Skyped into classes. I had a great conversation at Gally with students about Judaism, which was fun for both me and the students. You don't know everything, use the resources and tech we have to fill in the gaps.
5. Don't assume anything about your students knowledge. Students come from different backgrounds and have different understandings of the world, which may look different from yours. Go in with a blank slate. Remember, you can always change and supplement as semester goes on.
6. Don't expect anything from your students. Remember that just because the student may be Jewish, doesn't mean they want to talk about their Jewish identity in class or that it matches a reading. There is always diversity in experience and students don't always want to
or feel comfortable talking about their experiences. Create a safe space for discussion and understand that if students don't want to talk, that's fine.
A few great resources: @ASPA_DSJ @aspaSPAE @JohnJayWPS @CriticalARNOVA @TheNSWM @NASPAA_DEI. As for professors, there are way too many too list but there are some amazing people in our field who can help. I believe @jamielevdan has a list of diverse articles in PA.
