Apples sandboxing policies, combined with the fact that 80%+ of American teenagers are using iPhones, mean that Apple is effectively America’s privacy regulator by default. Apple is the reason TikTok can’t read your messages, for better or worse.
Apple’s policies on what you can do on an iPhone and Facebook’s policies on what you can and can’t do on Facebook are two sides of the same coin. Those are the computing platforms that are relevant for Americans now.
There is a weird double-think in the simultaneous demands that Facebook moderate massively more and apple moderate massively less. Of course they both screw up, but what’s the principle we want?
