Can I just say, again, how awesome it is to have queer characters front and center of a major Marvel event? Not just front and centre, but it revolves around them? That they feel important. This means so much, and it’s all we ask for
I have been advocating not just for visibility and inclusion and the importance platform’s such as Marvel’s have for my entire career, and I meant more than just the odd appearance in the background or the odd limited series (or cancelled far too soon series)
I have meant being included and treated as valid and important as any other character. Having the full backing of marketing and PR. Being at the forefront and given important vital roles too. Seeing this in Empyre has been amazing.
I hope it continues! I hope queer voices in the creatives starts getting the same focus and push too. I hope it’s more than just this one event and then back to the status quo, because we need this. Every queer Marvel out there is just asking for that moment.
Like how vital it was to see Miles Morales so black kids could see themselves as Spider-Man. As important Ms Marvel is for Muslim readers. Queer readers just want to be given the same sense of importance and being an active part of a narrative 60+ years in the making.
