I am really enjoying this game and I have noted many differences to FPL. These are some of my takeaways after GW1. @FitbaPod @ItsNotFPL @FPLGeneral @FPL_Audit @FplMaz
Team set-up: I think a 4-4-2 with a non-playing midfielder and a non-playing defender is best. Thanks to @FPL_Audit for pointing a version of this out. However, a non-playing defender is cheaper than the cheapest and 2nd cheapest non-playing midfielders.
4-4-2 allows anyone to come off of the bench and allows you to have 4 playing midfielders rather than a maximum of 2. With 2 non-playing starters, your 2/3 best bench players will come on. This saved me from a Considine RC at the weekend. See below.
Transfers do not roll so adjusting team structure when transferring in/out CEL and RAN is very tricky. I currently have triple Rangers defence and triple Celtic attack. Though that worked well this weekend, if I had it to do over, I’d have at least one defender from each
Captaincy is big but vice captaincy might be bigger. Very few midfielders are viable VCs. This is because assists do not double for VCs. The cleansheet point doesn’t double for MIDs either. Therefore, I will always VC a defender or FWD
Captaining any player other than a keeper is viable. I will captain the player who I think can offer a cleansheet AND assists or goals AND assists. This may sound obvious but I won’t be captaining the player I simply think will score the highest points necessarily.
I have seen a lot of talk about Eduoard as auto captain, but he may be my auto VC. He scored 32 as C and 28 as VC. Many more points to be gained elsewhere from captaining the correct player.
Do not VC a GK unless he is your only defender from RAN or CEL. That being said, penalty saves do not double for VC and there are no save points or bonus points.
I would not look further than MOT, CEL, or RAN for GK unless you go bargain bucket. 2.2 starting and 1.8 backup. No saves/no BPS makes GK FAR less valuable than in FPL. I would not try to rotate mid price GKs. Too much budget will be tied up.
McGregor (3.0) + minimum (1.8) = 4.8
McCrorie (2.2) + Alnwick (2.5) = 4.7
How far will that 0.1 take you? It will be more of a headache when both GKs are home or both are away. Only upside I can see is that it frees up RAN or CEL spot. But you could always set and forget Carson
On hits: I would not be nearly as concerned about taking hits as in FPL. Why? You can C or VC a new player which makes hits easier to stomach. Also, CS for DEF/GK is worth 5, so a hit might be slightly more likely to pay off. With no rolling transfers, it may take weeks...
...to change team structure without hits. And if you are swapping CEL>RAN or vice versa, a hit will ensure that you always have 3 from each club.
Do not wildcard too soon. Your second wildcard is not available until April. I don’t know this for sure, but it seems you may be able to use multiple chips in a GW meaning you could WC into a DGW AND BB in the same week. Please correct me if I’m wrong on this.
Please let me know where you disagree and what I have left out. We are all learning the intricacies of this new game together. END
