I want to put this out there because it can happen to you too. Don’t be arrogant like me and think it won’t.

On Monday 8/3 my Exodus and Atomic wallets were hacked. The funds in the wallet were converted to ETH and then withdrawn, many were not swappable within the wallet
And still remain. I didn’t have any clue this happened until I went to move some funds yesterday. Immediately upon realizing this I started withdrawing everything to a brand new wallet not on my computer.

I feel like this is a good time to open up about my mistakes.
First mistake: don’t save your recovery phrases on your desktop. Always keep them offline and written on paper is the safest option. I was ignorant and in the back of my head thought this would never happen to me. Well, it did.
Second mistake: I download tons of wallets and mining software on my desktop because I use my desktop for spec mining/testing. Keep this shit 100% off of any device you use that holds the bulk of your crypto.
Third mistake: use a hardware wallet. I always preferred multi wallets because the ease of use is great. But would you rather have ease of use or keep your funds safe? Whatever you do, keep your wallets offline except when you use them.
I’m not the most technical person but in the last 24 hours I’ve learned a lot from a lot of great people. I know I’ll get criticized for this and that’s fine. My only goal is to put this information out there so others don’t make the same mistakes I have.
I can only speculate how the hackers were able to get into my wallets but it was likely through one of the files I downloaded.

Be safe and be smart. The more prices of crypto increase the more common these tweets will become. I don’t want to see this happen to you!
