I don't thinks folks are.

People who say that assume that the system works--that if you vote for X program, it will work and thus there will be a benefit to said voter.

What we've seen is that it doesn't matter who or what you vote for. Little changes out here.

When most of rural Missouri voted Democrat, we saw the rise of the corporate democrats who took money from businesses and executives.

Businesses incentivized to move jobs overseas or replace them with technology. Executives motivated to maximize profits made these calls.

2/
This is not wholly different than the reaction the progressive wing of the Democratic party has had against those who seek to prioritize profits over people.

The difference is where those folks landed--further left or further right.

3/
And you can almost draw a line between those who believe things can improve and those who think every politician is corrupt and so it doesn't matter what the people want.

4/
In addition, our communities were ground zero for outlets like Fox News and Rush Limbaugh. And while it can be easy to dismiss those outlets as commentary or propaganda and not news--it's important to remember that the idea the "news" would lie is incomprehensible to some.

5/
Educated people who grew up trusting the words of news anchors and radio hosts remain shocked to find that people are allowed to give a certain bent on the truth.

The same way they are shocked political candidates can lie on Facebook without repercussion.

6/
Meanwhile, folks out here who were told jobs and investments were coming--learned that wasn't true.

They watched post offices close. Military bases close. Businesses close. Schools go down to 4 days a week. Hospitals close. And with that jobs continued to dry up.

7/
Working families are focusing on making ends meet. They're trying to get their kids to school. Keep the house in reasonable order. Make sure the family is fed.

And most people don't have the privilege to dig through the propaganda that's been targeted at them for decades.

8/
Then COVID-19 happens--exacerbating every. single. one. of those problems.

And we're supposed to expand Medicaid in August--an intentional move by Republicans controlled by that same corporate for-profit healthcare interest to depress turnout.

9/
So you have an onslaught of noise coming your way from your elected officials lying about losing $15M in school funding for your district if you support Medicaid Expansion--while your kiddo is already down to 4 days a week--and that's if schools re-open at all.

10/
Now you're choosing between the struggle to make ends meet + going without healthcare coverage--knowing you can go to the ER if it's really bad.

Or killing your kid's future because the school is about to lose its funding and it just might close, too. Like everything else.

11/
It is the system that is broken here.

Not the people.

And that's something the vast majority of people can agree on.
