Eating disorders//// being fat meant I literally nearly (eg hospitalized) died of an eating disorder because everyone I knew including doctors did nothing but praise the fact that I was making a “lifestyle change.”
This fandom is so rampantly and disgustingly fatphobic and to call that tweet “”””body shaming””” is horrifically offensive to those of us who have, again and again, been institutionally oppressed/ denied literal healthcare because of our weight
cancer cw//// every fat person I know has the experience of going to the doctor, explaining their symptoms, and being told to lose weight before anything else. this literally means fat people are diagnosed with cancer at much later stages than their thin counterparts.
like literally, I guarantee any fat person you know has had this experience. it's literally killing people.
fatphobia/// AND THIS IS ALL RELATED because when you treat fat people like shit/ act like fatness is shameful and disgusting /praise weight loss CONSTANTLY and then have the audacity to bring up body shaming for ONCE in this RIDICULOUS context like... my god.
weight loss// the smallest step you can take is not do this. the next smallest one? stop praising weight loss. I want to be gentle here, because I know society has conditioned us to do this, and the person you're praising is probably looking for that validation +
weight loss// which isn't ridiculous at all!! they've probably done a lot of difficult things to lose weight and external validation is the DREAM. it's the end goal all fat people have drilled into us- if you lose weight, you'll have everything you'll ever want incl validation
weight loss/// HOWEVER. if someone has lost a significant amount of weight in a short period of time, odds are they have done something very unhealthy for their bodies in order to get there. diets, extreme exercise, not providing their body the nourishment it deserves.
a way better question is to ask how they're feeling, physically and mentally. because odds are, they're suffering and need help.
weight loss//// I see a LOT of weight loss praise on this app, I've even seen it be described as the "best thing I did in 2019" or whatever and it breaks my heart. being fat is beautiful.
I'm going to end it there because these tweets are VERY TAME FOR ME and if I really get into it the fatphobes will find me but yeah. think before you speak and take the time to actually unpack what you're saying.
