Creating people-friendly streets will make it easier to walk, cycle, scoot and use buggies and wheelchairs in Islington. Our streets will be safer and better-suited for social distancing.
Islington’s streets will be better for exercising and play, and will bring cleaner air for all – which is so important for people with asthma or breathing difficulties.
The Government and @TfL have said councils must act now to avoid a rise in congestion as we move out of lockdown. That is why we are moving forward with our plans now. People-friendly streets will also create more space for walking, cycling and social distancing.
Residents’ safety is our priority. We’ve worked closely with emergency services before each people-friendly streets scheme is installed to ensure they are aware of the changes and can continue to access every street in Islington.
We know that local people know their streets better than anyone else, and we are listening closely to the views and suggestions you are giving us on Commonplace.
