#18Tips to follow!
While unqualified to comment with authority on 'exam grades' - the elephant in the #ResultsDay #Clearing2020 room - I'd confidently say every Y13 student has dynamic potential, so be proud of everything you've achieved, learnt & planned.

Employers & universities believe in you.
1. #ASinglePieceOfPaperDoesNotHaveToDefineYou

You are the same amazing, much loved person before & after #ResultsDay.

NB: Families & Friends... Be as kind, calm & positive as you can be. Your support really will be appreciated, tho' it may not seem it at first!

#Clearing2020
2. #BackYourself

It's totally understandable to feel initial disappointment, but don’t give up or compare yourself with anyone else.

Never stop believing in your ability. This is still the start of your amazing journey beyond school, not the end.

#Clearing2020 #ALevels2020
3. #YouWillSurvive

A sudden change in plans is never ideal, but grab a hug (virtual/ real/ socially-distanced), shed a tear or two (inside/ visibly), be resilient, stay philosophical & face #Clearing confidently.

Trust me, but many say #Clearing actually proved a huge blessing.
4. #ReachOut

Don't face #Clearing alone. Ask a trusted relative, careers adviser, teacher or friend to help you find a way through.

Take time to compose yourself, but if you can muster some strength to fight back as soon as possible, prompt, positive action is very beneficial.
5. #BePrepared #HaveAPlanB

Check out other universities/ courses that appeal, in case understandably you freeze on #ResultsDay. You can also register interest before #Clearing opens.

Read @ucas_online's excellent guidance, inc. info on #ClearingPlus: https://bit.ly/2PrCj40 .
6. #TheNightBefore

I really hope you get the grades you need & deserve to ignore this thread, but just in case: make sure you prepare a #Clearing first-aid kit:

a) fully charged mobile(s) with data/ WiFi code;
b) access to your UCAS ID/ Track info;
c) snacks & drinks;
...
...
d) tablet or laptop access;
e) personal statement & notes on why you want a particular course, location & university;
f) notebook/paper & pens;
g) list of phone numbers, URLs & social media feeds for universities/ departments;
h) patience;
i) self-belief.

#YouCanDoIt
7. #DontPanic #BeAvailable #ActEarly

It's a rare situation where I say, don’t take initial rejection/ 'no' as final. Politely challenge decisions, make your case, ask re related courses.

Ring your Firm & Insurance choices.
DM via social media.
Talk to uni departments direct.
8. #DontBelieveTheHype

Be wary of August's traditional season of media frenzy/ speculation!

Universities want & need you. They'll be calming & keen to help.
View #Clearing as a buyer's market for all bar the most competitive courses, but even for those, there is always a way.
9. #ShopAround

Don't accept the first #Clearing option you see or are offered, unless it really is the very best opportunity for you. Nor be seduced by smooth sales talk - you're worth so much more than that!

Choose what really interests you or enhances the route you want.

...
...

You can't accept a #Clearing offer firmly before 3pm on #ResultsDay, but negotiate verbal offers (typically with a 24 hour expiry) as early as you feel ready.

Handy tip alert! Any university/ course you rejected for Firm & Insurance choices wanted you once, so why not now?
10. #SellYourself

Physically prepare specific answers for why you want a course, university (crucial) & location offered in #Clearing.

List your reasons & have them at hand when on a call!
If no-one answers your call at first, keep ringing. Someone will pick up.

...
...

Make the 'call' yourself:

'When I called my insurance offer, I was told I'd been rejected. #UCASTrack did not confirm this, so I persisted with phone calls & remembered key info from my interviews, constantly selling myself. Persistence won my place over another student.'
11. #Visit

Go to a #virtual open day; visit, if safe to.

Evaluate new options with the same care you gave your original choices: ensure course content, facilities, placements, graduate destinations, assessment, costs, accommodation & vibes all suit your strengths & interests.
12. #Adjustment

If you've met & exceeded your Firm Choice offer, you're eligible to upgrade your course or university.

Take advice, don't discard your key original considerations & only take this route, if totally certain.

13. #GapYear

Defer your offer or take your time to:

Gain invaluable (virtual) work experience.
Confirm a course you want to study.
Explore exciting, life-changing options locally, nationally or globally.
Earn/ save money.

15. #LookAhead

If university is still your best option, it will be amazing for so many reasons - new friends, new experiences, independence & dynamic study.

But look beyond your course... now!
Talk to recruiters - sow intern & graduate seeds.

16. #ALevelsAreNoDefinitiveMeasureOfIntelligence

While not ignoring hours of hard work, many employers set limited faith in them as selection tools, seeing flaws in one-off performance & memory test assessment as archaic.

Placement performance & networking give better insight.
17. #NoWrongPath

If you really want something, you will find your way... & supporters to help you.

Taking a little longer to find the best path is not disadvantageous & you are free to stop, reflect & enjoy new challenges along the journey.

Those who've experienced #Clearing's acute agonies & extreme joy, say... in 15 minutes, 2 hours, 3 days, a week, a few months or a year, you'll see #ResultsDay as a positive memory.
Really hope the practical steps in this thread help anyone facing #Clearing. I've seen students pivot during #Covid19 in amazing ways: e.g. @theoppdirectory. Employers & universities are on your side.

Will post more resources as per...

As university admissions officers now regret not turning off all mobile notifications before 10.30pm tonight, #ALevels2020Eve will see fevered debate on the merits of Mock grades - no one school follows the same procedure, let alone departments in the same school!
