There was a time when I used to do loads of general meets in London with producers and development execs. All I did was bang on about James Gray, Jacques Audiard, PTA and Jonathan Glazer. What a fucking moron.
What prompted that thought? I just looked at the films that have been released over the last 6 months. Eesh.
Related: A guy at the BBC actually stopped me mid-meet to tell me not to talk about PTA and The Coen Bros in general meets. He was basically telling me I was setting unrealistic targets. That I could never live up to those giants.
Another guy, at another company, told me that I could forget about making a first feature unless it was a horror or a comedy.
I never did make a film, and they were both probably right. End of thread.
