The case was transferred to Allahabad High Court on 18 March by the Supreme Court, which, Adeel Ahmad Khan said, had assured a quick judgement. #KafeelKhan's family has now waited >6 months, he added, and planned to approach the SC again. They are currently discussing options.

Kafeel Khan has been in jail since 29 Jan for a speech in which he criticised the govt during anti- #CAA protests against. He was granted bail on 10 Feb by a judge in Aligarh but wasn’t allowed to leave jail. 3 days later, UP govt brought charges under the National Security Act.

The NSA, under which #KafeelKhan is detained, does not define“national security”. It define situations in which an order for detention under the NSA may be passed. These include threats to the defence or security of India. Khan has been deemed to be a threat to public order

But public order does not appear to have been threatened or disrupted due to Khan. The police request for detention under NSA, says Khan made a speech critical of 'Mota Bhai’ (Home Minister Amit Shah) & #CAA: “Mota bhai teaches us to become Hindu or Muslim but not human beings.”
