We all know BTS is known for their epic music videos, unlike most artists today who treat them like an afterthought rather than an art form. So I thought I'd do a thread of some of my fav MVs from back when artists used MVs as a tool to tell stories and push the envelope.
Guns N' Roses - November Rain
Nine minutes long, this MV sent shockwaves through the music world when it came out and rightly so.
Michael Jackson - Thriller
This should be on every fav MV list. He changed the game with what you could in a MV with Thriller.
Smashing Pumpkins - Tonight, Tonight
Visually stunning and ingenious use of silent film history.
Soundgarden - Black Hole Sun
The first MV I ever remember watching. It stuck with me 5 year old me hard with its weirdness, dark humor and social commentary.
My Chemical Romance - I'm Not Okay
The video that birthed so many emo kids, and a hell of a lot of fan fic.
OK Go- Here It Goes Again
Low budget af but that didn't matter at all. This one is all about the creativity and the choreography.
REM- Losing My Religion
Stunning cinematography and leaves plenty of room for each person to theorize about and take what they want from it
Beyonce - Single Ladies
There was nobody who didn't know this dance after this MV came out. Visually simple but striking and memorable all at the same time.
Madonna- Like A Prayer
I could have picked so many Madonna vids, but this one is the most memorable for me. It was her first that actually really struck me, as young as I was, and I was fascinated by how angry it made my mom LOL
Virtual Insanity - Jamiroquai
Not a memorable song for me but this MV was EVERYWHERE when it came out. It blew people's minds.
RUN DMC Feat. Aerosmith - Walk This Way
Game changer of a song and a MV all wrapped in one.
Beastie Boys - Sabotage
Just a really fun MV that keeps your attention.
Aha- Take On Me
A classic! I still watch this one from time to time when the mood strikes.
Pearl Jam - Jeremy
(TW: guns, suicide, school shootings)
This video struck a chord when it came out. It was shocking and honest and affected me deeply at a very young age.
Outkast - Hey Ya
If you watch this without smiling, you don't have a soul.
