/ They blew up Beirut... literally, and deliberately. Yes, deliberately. They blew it up, and blew our hearts with it. #Beirut #Lebanon
/ Beirut was already transforming at a fast rate lately, it was already sad and tired. It was heartbreaking and enraging to see how our beloved city was changing, how our lives were no longer what we wanted it to be (or what we knew it to be)
/ it was heartbreaking how the look on people’s face in the street was exhausted, how people have lost their jobs and the value of their incomes, how misery had become our only fate so suddenly.
/ It was already unbelievable that we had to deal with a financial free fall that is caused by a mafia rule, on top of a counter-revolution and a crackdown on spaces of opposition...
/ all intensified by the Covid pandemic at a time when the country’s infrastructure and medical capacities are depleted. We had been living with no electricty, with shortage of bread and fuel, with no $ and no visas to get us out of this hell, we had been living in hell already.
/ We lost trust... i think we never had trust, but we started to feel that we also lost hope... but that was all before the blast.
/ With the blast yesterday, everything has now been multiplied by a zillion. What is happening to us in Lebanon is not an “accident” and it is not “unfortunate”, it is a deliberate CRIME, one of the biggest in history, and it is ENRAGING!
/ We have lost everything, we have lost our memories, our streets, our lives, our hope, our ability to breath without inhaling toxic chemicals and our ability to enjoy a moment of silence...
/ since the blast detonated, my ears have not stopped ringing and the sound of breaking glass everywhere is inescapable... also the smell of blood in Beirut is nauseating.
/ This mafia, every single one of them, is responsible. They are responsible for making this country an open hell. They destroyed it, they dealt with our lives as disposable, they created a zombie state with no accountability and no basic safety...
/ they allowed the storage of 2700 tons (!!!!) of explosive chemicals for more than 6 years in the port of a populated city like Beirut. This is not an accident, this is beyond criminal! Beyond everything.
/ We lost everything, we only have our rage left. Let our rage guide the coming days.
