I still stand by all the times I've said that Reylo fandom isn't any more racist than any other fandom. I believe that's true. It never meant it's not racist. Fandoms are racist places. One of my biggest issues with antis was that they not only demanded that the racism
must be eradicated before anyone could ship it, but that the burden was somehow always on the fans of color to take that on. Like we had to earn it. We couldn't just live our lives. We had make fighting fandom racism the major way we do fandom. And I just, refuse.
And that doesn't mean I ever want to ignore things it just means that I don't owe some goal post moving stranger my time or labor.
God now I'm thinking about Sherlock fandom and Sally Donovan. Also the refusal by so many fans to just fucking admit that The Blind Banker is a really fucking racist episode. The whole damned thing. And when your show only has 13 episodes one really racist episode is a big deal
One of my friends once made a shit post pointing out the fact that they had that flute or guqin music playing every time Soo Lin was on screen and so many people were like "yeah she's Chinese?!"
Me, at 221b con, having to ask a white male panelist not to call Sally a bitch and that maybe we just shouldn't be using that word in a Women of Sherlock panel anyway?
Followed by a white woman panelist then trying to ban the word misogyny???
Again this is at a Women of Sherlock panel. In a fandom where female characters were treated like shit
And I'm not trying to be like "this fandom is worse than this one" just pointing out again, that it's every where. But Reylo fandom has been the fandom where I've connected with way more woc than before, so I don't feel as alone.
Speaking of misogyny in Sherlock fandom I will never get over that ppl would say they don't write the women characters bc they aren't well written meanwhile there was an entire ship between Moriarty and a character who didn't even appear on the show until season 3 for 2 seconds
