(bonus points if you know what equation this is!)
Alright! For those who guessed Quasi-Geostrophic Omega (QG Omega) equation, you& #39;re winners! We do not routinely derive or manipulate this equation by hand but it is one of the most powerful equations used in numerical weather modeling. (1/2) There is an impression that all meteorologists are gifted in math. Really, many of us waded through the integrals/derivatives & wonder how we ever made it to the finish line. It& #39;s the love of weather that made the impossible possible. Never be afraid to follow your passion!
(2/2) In our operational work, we rarely if ever "do math" (especially derivations!). That said, we are happy to be a resource and would love to help and/or encourage you if this is your passion. Never hesitate to reach out -- we are here for you!
