Encouraging my mum to join the #MOstrike. She has fibromyalgia & severe depression exacerbated by chronic illness. She constantly explains to her jobactive provider she can't do physical work/long hours & they keep setting her up to fail with interviews for jobs she can't do
Then when she has to do these interviews for jobs she is physically no longer able to do she feels so awful and shitty about herself. I barely recognise my mum whenever she has to do mutual obligations - she sounds so small and defeated @AusUnemployment #MOstrike
She visited me recently for the first time since my bub was 2 weeks (thanks covid) and during the visit she was told she had to do a course for several hours each day over a week on how to write a resume and cover letter. She is 57 and had been working for several decades
She was humiliated. My mum was told to watch Ted talks on power posing and had to do homework on the 'elevator pitch'. We joked about where in the 30 second pitch she should include her crippling mental health and chronic illness #MOstrike
She feels so defeated and doesn't see an end to this cycle of humiliation. The problem is that jobactive providers see her as a KPI and not as an individual human being with specific circumstances that impact her ability to work. Sounds great for her depression! #MOstrike
