unasked-for advice: when i was preparing to enter this industry, my focus was on rocking the boat as little as possible. "don& #39;t give anyone a reason to dislike you" mentality - wanted all work possibilities open. fact is there will always be people who talk shit, so JUST DO YOU.
it is literally impossible to please everyone, even if you thought it was healthy to make all your decisions with that goal in mind. it& #39;s not healthy, and it& #39;s not possible.
follow your gut and intuition, it will lead you in the correct direction 9 times out of 10.

it& #39;s not just about & #39;i do what i want& #39; attitude, it makes business sense:
1) saves time. if you& #39;re being yourself always, people decide quickly whether they like you or not. there is no pretending to get along phase. if you end up working together, the focus will be on the work.

2) you will have zero -i mean ZERO- brand if your entire focus is never rocking the boat, never potentially doing anything that might annoy anyone. why would anyone trust in or want to work with someone who& #39;s afraid to have opinions? who isn& #39;t memorable? no leadership qualities?
establish yourself. establish your intelligence. establish your knowledge of the industry. don& #39;t apologize when you have nothing to apologize for. do apologize when you know that you legitimately should.
be you. do it as loudly and authentically as suits you. flourish from that

people will not know you, recommend you, or even remember you if you are an entirely blank slate. people need to know what they are getting and you need to constantly innovate and grow. that straight up doesn& #39;t happen if you are too afraid to *BE*.
i& #39;ve been told, or overheard "i& #39;m sure you already know jacqui - i mean everyone knows jacqui." or some variation of that i don& #39;t know how many times. i still have never decided on whether i think that& #39;s net positive or net negative but it wouldn& #39;t exist if i was afraid to Be Me.
listening to your gut can be challenging and sometimes muddled or confusing. but, the more you do it, the easier it becomes to suss out what your gut is telling you. make it habit. there will be fuck ups along the way. we all know fuck ups are where growth sprouts from, though.
if you fear to do, or to be. if you fear yourself, you will not go far in this industry. or in general.
just, get after it.
just, get after it.
oh and ps: ignore people who try to control how you dress.
just stop holding yourself back from things. stop failing to give yourself permission for things.
fuck around and find out. don’t just ask people in the industry “what would happen if i applied for x?” idk apply for it and see what happens.
literally: fuck around and find out

you are literally not eligible for opportunities you refuse to put your hat in the ring for. and applying for something doesn’t commit you to taking it. not just jobs but opportunities in general. it frustrates me to see people hold themselves back as if someone else will say Go.
