In a nutshell: these tests aren't as sensitive BUT they detect at the critical moment: when someone is infectious. And because they're cheap, you can test A LOT and prevent spread. Imagine if we could test every morning before school or work, then stay home if we get a positive
Furthermore, because these types of tests catch you at the moment you're infectious, it assists with contact tracing in that you go back only a couple of days vs. 2 weeks.
