iirc, the crazy thing is the flood base (calculated for probability and water rise of a 100 year event) is the only standard for determining insurance appraisal, even though hurricanes slamming into the OB and throwing cars around isn't (duh!) a 100 year event.
at the beach rn and relevant to this thread is the way those who own beachfront property emotionally invest by naming their houses and then buying specially designed wooden signs to stake that investment
