Thread. Schools in Ontario. (COI: 7 yo grandson we like to hug). Quite a gap between SickKids plan & what has been announced by Gov't. Appreciate investments by Gov't but don't see how boards, principals, teachers, other staff can get ready w/in 5 wks or w/out more $.
Yes, delays are bad for kids & hard on families, esp. low-income families. Just worried that opening too soon, related COVID-19 flare-ups, & rapid re-closing would be even worse.
From multi-partisan observation: Gov'ts seek advice. Gov'ts cherry-pick advice & partially fund the bits they pick. Shit happens. Gov'ts invoke advisers. Advisers object. Gov'ts pivot to highlight deficiencies in execution. Rewind and repeat.
Looking ahead. Named advisers for invocation: SK, UHN, Ont public health experts. Potential execution scapegoats: Boards, principals, teachers, other staff.
Respectful suggestion to Premier: Sir, this is your plan. You'll own it on election day. If you're nervous, then move more slowly, add more resources, work v. closely with educators, and nail down every detail. Disclaimers: Non-partisan. Advising as Oupa, not as an MD.
