twilight is twilight is twilight but im 5 chapters into midnight sun and theres no arguing that it IS somewhat better written than twilight which is........................... pretty wild
i am going to have SO many thoughts on this book when i'm done in (checks watch) an entire fucking day. (this audiobook is so long)
theres a scene in which edward literally stares at his own hands and “despairs” this is so fucking funny.
chapter 7 and he has stared at his hands no less than THREE TIMES
HAND WATCH: edward has stared at his hands FOUR times
FIVE TIMES BRO YOU GOTTA STOP THIS
the entire chapter where edwards going after bella in phoenix is literally just edward naming different models of cars he sees on the road. he's named like 8 different cars. i cannot handle this
the car hes currently driving has nitrous boost buttons labeled "go go 1" and "go go 2" i cannot FUCKING handle this
i finished this book and i can finally fucking die
edwards narration brings no new insight into his character (besides the fact that he ends the book in a state of deep depression bracing for the events of new moon, which i honestly thought was interesting) there's about 4 interesting new moments of lore in the entire 600 pages
his narrative is full of insights into bellas perspective in a way that hollowly echoes sentiments already established in twilight. essentially he can still read her mind despite not being able to read her mind. the miscommunications that normal people have are completely absent
only a few of the moments the reader was not already present for in twilight felt rewarding. glimpses into characters not developed in the original series (esme, emmett) made a weak effort to fix that but ultimately didn't stick the landing.
his internal dialogue just flickers between mechanical, angry/upset, and a weird tortured emotion that insists its love but looks nothing like it. all of his positive emotions (besides one very horny scene) are so fleeting that theyre entirely unconvincing to read
the wildest thing though? i enjoyed myself IMMENSELY! as posited at the beginning of this thread, twilight is twilight is twilight. i rest my fucking case.
one of the more interesting parts of the book was how edward was constantly taking the backseat in alice's mind every time she combed through the future. BUT i would still say both of their powers were frustratingly underdeveloped
