It’s bad for fighters but really is a crafty business move. Why have real negotiations with new talent when you can sign a slew of potentially good fighters for peanuts with an option to pick up those that show breakout potential to a preset low paying lengthy contract.

And there will never be a shortage of fighters willing to sign those contracts for their chance to make it to the big show. The deck is stacked against the fighters from the get go.

And this landscape will never change unless there is a union or legislative change. Until then the deck is stacked. It is what it is.
