For events that are just Zoom streams, I could see why you might think that. Especially without much prep or production done beforehand. We've all seen this by now.
But not all events are just that.

Some events are putting a lot of time/production into a broadcast that is more like a talk show with presentation segments and activities.
That involves equipment and crew (even during quarantine).
They may also be shipping video and lightning equipment to remote speakers.

Some events are also shipping beautifully designed swag.
Not just slapping logos on things, but actual graphically-designed collateral. Maybe even a personalized badge!

Some events are even providing a networking platform to allow attendees to engage with attendees through more than just a chat. Actual interest-based matchmaking (opt-in). And lunch & learns. And icebreaker activities before the conference.

Oh. And speakers are PAID and taken care of. And so are all the crew and staff involved to make the event happen.
& some of these events are community-run. Not ran by a big corporate giant company with lots of money to throw big free corporate marketing shows.

It is not reasonable to expect this kind of event to be cheap/free for everyone.
Just because you want the event diverse/inclusive, does not mean the event needs to be cheapened.

Everyone deserves to have a GREAT experience. And those great experiences have to be paid for.
The people have to be paid. Platforms, tech, and equipment have to be paid for.
That money has to come from somewhere. And sponsors are not as generous during pandemic.

So please understand. Full-priced tickets beyond the scholarships and need-based discounts are necessary to make the higher-quality event possible.
And aren't you tired of raggedy, buggy Zoom conferences? Me, too.
