Thread : Reducing your clothing consumption!
1.1 No matter what u buy ur probably contributing to some social or environmental problem so there’s no point beating urself up.
1.2 Is this the consumers fault?? obviously not lol but for now u have to do what u can
2. Try to stop buying clothes for one particular occassion in mind, I know too many of us have something we’ve worn under 10 times. If you have a gathering or something coming up is it really necessary to buy a whole outfit?
3. Revamp your older clothes by upcycling them, lots of videos on youtube that are really handy, also it’s just fun.
4. If you want to get rid of clothes app donating them sometimes isn’t that great as they might end up thrown away-so call your local charity shops to ask if they are in need of donations beforehand. If not then passing them on to friends/family is always handy.
5. Try to avoid buying clothes on trend, it can be hard but eventually you’ll probably stop wearing the item altogether. I think going for pieces that you can continuously mix and match is the best idea. Or just go for what u like, thats all that rlly matters anyway.
6. Obvs depop and second hand shops u already know - ngl some depop sellers will be getting shit off aliexpress so try to keep an eye out for that!
7. Try ur best to limit how much you buy monthly/yearly. What’s worked for me is actually tracking how often I actually bought clothes and then reducing that by like 80%. It seems like a lot but I have a lot of wearable clothes and didn’t actually NEED new clothes.
8. Delete all fast fashion apps from your devices.
9. Remind yourself that clothes are meant to be worn and reworn until they fall apart or you grow out of them.
10. Remember that 30% off is 70% ON. It’s not a good deal unless it’s half price imo and even then, if you weren’t planning on buying it already then don’t fall for it. You haven’t saved money you never planned to spend in a sale.
11. Remember that the satisfaction from buying new clothes is fleeting. All of your clothes at one point seemed like ur fav purchase. And now ur wearing them to bed or round the house.
12. A clothing allowance or budget MIGHT seem like a good idea but essentially you might end up spending money on clothes you didn’t need purely because you have some allowance left over. You just have to know urself with this one, it may or may not work for you.
13.1 No brainer but take good care of your clothes and you won’t be put off by them. Follow the instructions on the labels that tell you how to wash/iron/dry them. Someone actually made those clothes and you paid for them!! Don’t be treating them anyhow!!
13.2 How you store ur clothes is also important, personally i hate folding clothes but I started watching Marie Kondo & sis changed my life. Sorting out my entire wardrobe never takes me long anymore and I can actually see most of my clothes so I won’t forget about pieces I like.
14. No one gives a shit if u wore something 50 times and if someone points it out then that makes them a complete freak
